The Riverland Faeries are a queer, nature-loving, community-rooted constellation of Radical Faeries flourishing along the rivers, forests, and wetlands of the Netherlands. We gather to celebrate authenticity, creativity, and kinship, weaving together queer spirit, ecological awareness, and the playful, earnest magic that emerges when people meet one another without judgement.
We honour the Radical Faerie tradition as it has grown across Europe since the mid-1990s, when the first Eurofaerie gathering took place on Terschelling. From these early sparks, a vibrant network of faerie groups has taken root across the continent; non-commercial, heart-led spaces where LGBTQIA+ people can explore identity, spirituality, and community beyond the expectations of urban culture.
Riverland Faeries carry this legacy forward in a Dutch context: grounded, direct, gentle, and joyfully weird. Inspired by the waters that shape this land, we try to move like rivers; flexible, resilient, and open to change.
Our gatherings and meet-ups are a blend of the earthy and the fantastical. We cook and care for one another, hold Heart Circles where deep listening forms the backbone of community, offer creative and spiritual workshops, and create spaces where gender, desire, and expression can unfold freely. These gatherings range from intimate weekends to larger seasonal events in nature.
We also support the wider Radical Faeries of Europe network by helping organise gatherings, cultivating Dutch faerie traditions, and contributing to accessibility, mutual aid, and queer empowerment. Our work resonates with the broader mission of fostering safe, nature-connected, non-commercial LGBTQIA+ community spaces.
Riverland Faeries live by values rooted in compassion, creativity, and liberation:
Everyone is welcome who arrives in good faith. We celebrate gender diversity, queerness in all its forms, and the many paths people walk toward self-understanding.
Our spaces are created by faeries, for faeries. No one is expected to perform, produce, or be anything other than themselves.
Nature isn't just a backdrop; it's a teacher, a collaborator, and a sanctuary. We work to honour the land and act in ways that support ecological care.
We invite spiritual exploration without telling anyone what that should look like. Ritual, play, sensuality, grief, joy, silence, song; they all have a place here.
We try to remove barriers to participation by offering solidarity funds, shared resources, and a culture of care so that people with fewer means or with vulnerabilities feel welcome.
The Riverland Faeries are still unfolding; new shoots, new friendships, and new gatherings taking shape. Like the river delta, we're a meeting point of stories, backgrounds, and inspirations. Our hope is to nurture a thriving faerie community within the Netherlands that remains connected to the wider European family while cultivating its own local flavours, rituals, and dreams.
Everyone who joins us helps shape who we are. You's invited to bring your curiosity, your softness, your glitter, your grief, your questions, your talents, or simply your presence. Together we create a space where queer people can breathe, blossom, and feel at home.
